A team of DT228/2 students:
Zach Davidson
Mariano DiMoro
Brendan Marsh
Stephen O'Hara
Hugh O'Higgins
From the DIT Games Soc last week came FIRST PLACE in the XNA Ireland Games Programming competition as part of Games Fleadh 2009 in the Tipperary Institute. The team competed against teams from 13 other institutes with their novel implementation of Asteroids in XNA, controllable using the Guitar Hero drum kit.
Their game which made use of vector graphics and procedurally generated audio was judged a clear winner by judges from Microsoft Game Studios, Popcap games, Blackrock Studios, Atari and Realtime Worlds. The team takes home €600 in prize money and the XNA Ireland Challenge perpetual Cup
Also DIT students:
Iain Breen
Petru Bumbar
Hugh O'Higgins
Mariano DiMoro
Won trophies in the Guitar Hero competition.
DT228/3 XNA Ireland team:
Andrew Bannister
Iain Breen
Petru Bumbar
Were highly commended by the judges for their novel game which combined RTS style controls with Asteroids.
Finally, DT228/1 students:
Neil Donegan
Adam Glendon Carraic
Trevor Punton
Bet off competition from 11 other DT228/1 teams to represent DIT in Robocode. An unanticipated rule change which meant the addition of two sentry bots to each match meant that their robot faced an additional challenge in the finals in Tipperay. Nevertheless the students still took home prizes of Creative Labs Mp3 players for winning the Milee battle in Robocode.
Well done to all students who participated!
