The School of Computing / The Institute of Finance
Management (IFM), Dar es Salaam joint Computer Science (DT228) programme commenced on the 6th of October, 2008.
The initial student intake is 20 with at least 40 planned for subsequent years.
Initial training to emphasise the industry-orientation syllabus of DT228 to IFM academic staff was carried out in July/August,2008 by Fred
Mtenzi, Oliver O'Connor and Paul Kelly. This training was very successful and prepared IFM staff for the implementation of DT228 in the CIT school of IFM.
Paul Kelly traveled to IFM in October to carry out further training and to assist in the implementation of SOC's teaching models. SOC staff advised on the implementation of their modules and generously contributed lecture notes, assignments and text books.
A meeting was held with the Irish Ambassador to Tanzania, Ms. Anne Barrington, who offered the support and assistance of the embassy for the joint programme.
It is planned that Oliver O'Connor and Fred Mtenzi will assist in the implementation of DIT's Quality Assurance Systems and will attend the
end of semester examinations boards in January and June, 2009.
Further mechanisms for exchange of staff and students between the partner institutions for purposes of research and skills development is
planned for the future.
SOC members of the steering committee for the joint programme are Brendan O'Shea, Fred Mtenzi, Oliver O'Connor, Patricia O'Byrne, June Barrett and Paul Kelly.
The joint DT228 programme has also been been running in Harbin Institute of Technology, China since September, 2003.
