Dhawan Visualisation of a Social Network – last.fm Abstract: This project investigates the use of dynamic data visualisations in the
realm of a socio networking
site – last.fm. Last.fm is a socio networking site, which generates a musical
profile of the user. It generates a list of songs, artists and bands that the user
has been listening too, by directly uploading/scrobbling the tracks to the user‟s online profile. This project explores the concept of relativity
and relationships; how one object is related to another to develop a data and
information visualisation enriched with principles of creative design and art,
to not only visualise vast quantities of data but to develop valuable data
representations that address the emotional experience of users. This benefits
the user cognitively, enabling them to explore the various types of data in
more depth as opposed to the normal metrics of textual form. The applications developed are

Li Visualisation
Mapping of Social Networking Abstract: Currently, there are many kinds of
online social network services (SNS) in the internet, such as facebook and
bebo. The aim of this project is to develop a interesting application that can
be used to visualis personal social relationships in SNS. The application will
support all of popular SNSs of the world, for instance, facebook, bebo and
myspace. Moreover, users can add this application for free in their SNS
account. Users can also request different relationship layout displays through
the user interface.
Accenture Innocation in Computing Cross-University Award.
Both projects are in the area of visualisation of social networks and further details are given below.
The students will present to a panel from Accenture on June 3rd 2009 where they will be competing with students from education institutes across Ireland for an award of €2000.
