Fraction Tutor Version 1.2

An App for iOS (iPhone and iPod) and Android.

Description.

This app performs the basic arithmetic operations with fractions. It displays all the necessary steps in a calculation as well as the final answer, and so it is a useful teaching and learning tool. The steps may involve finding the gcd (greatest common divisor), cancelling any common terms present, and simplifying a fraction to its lowest terms, e.g. 5/15 equals 1/3.

The final answer is always a fraction, so it is the exact answer. If desired it may be converted to a decimal result, but this may involve some roundoff error.

Comments have been added to the output to explain the changes made in each step of the calculation.

Note. The app manipulates positive fractions only, as negative ones can be handled using the basic rules for signs.
