Notice for Accepted Students  

Next entry

The next set of students will enter the programme in January 2009. These students will begin with the semester 2 modules listed below, and will then take the semester 1 modules in September 2009.

Please note that by entering the programme in January, it may take longer than four years to complete the programme, due to prerequisite modules at stage 2.

Each module will be delivered through lectures on one evening. One additional evening per week will be made available to students who wish to use the DIT computing and academic facilities to carry out practical tasks, complete coursework and attend tutorials. Academic staff will supervise these sessions and will be available to help students.

Entry Requirements

The minimum requirements for the programme are any ONE of the following:

  1. Irish Leaving Certificate with a grade D3 or higher in six subjects at ordinary level including (i) a grade C3 or higher in ordinary level Mathematics or a grade D3 or higher in higher level Mathematics, (ii) English or Irish at either level, (iii) a grade C3 or higher in at least 2 subjects at higher level.

  2. Application with an equivalent qualification - places may be offered to applicants with a qualification considered equivalent to the minimum requirements, as determined by Dublin Institute of Technology.

  3. Mature student application - places may be offered to mature students who meet certain criteria with respect to suitability, analytical skills and professional experience. Students may be requested to attend for interview.

Applicants whose first language is not English must attach a certified qualification of proficiency in English.

Please note that International students on Stamp 2 (wholetime study) or Stamp 3 (visitor/spouse) visa will not be able to register for the programme, even if they are offered a place. Stamp 1 (work permit) or Stamp 4 (resident/refugee) visa holders may apply. Assessment of visa status will occur at registration time.

Advanced entry is permitted into Stages 2 or 3 based on previously completed academic qualifications. Exemptions in individual modules may be granted when the School of Computing is satisfied that the material contained in the relevant modules has been completed at the appropriate level.

We are now accepting applications for January 2009.

Applicants wishing to apply for exemptions from modules on the programme must complete the exemption form here and e-mail it to ciaran.oleary@comp.dit.ie when applying. Exemptions will be awarded for any prior accredited learning. All forms must be accompanied by photocopies of transcripts certifying prior learning.

All students must complete this module selection form, stating which modules they intend to register for in the current academic year. It is typical that new students would take all stage 1 modules. This form must be e-mailed to ciaran.oleary@comp.dit.ie when applying (this is to facilitate the module registration process).


Fees

Fees are charged per module based on the number of ECTS credits.

The fees for 2008/2009 are as follows:

  • 15 ECTS modules = EURO 510
  • 10 ECTS modules = EURO 340
  • 5 ECTS modules = EURO 170

Students must pay capitation of EURO 120 per academic year.

This results in fees of EURO 2,160 for a whole stage completed in one calendar year.

Please note the fees may change between academic years.


Registration

All new students need to visit the registrations office in person to register and pay fees. Students must register before they begin attending classes.

New students entering in September 2008 may register at the following times:

  • Monday 1st to Thursday 4th September from 6.30pm - 8.00pm
  • Monday 8th to Thursday 11th September from 6.30pm - 8.00pm
  • Saturday 4th October from 10.00-12.00noon

If you are unable to register at those times, you must visit the registrations office during business hours. Please note that you will not be able to use college facilities (library, labs etc) until you have correctly registered and paid fees.

The registrations office is located on the second floor of the main building in DIT Kevin St.

Normal opening hours are as follows:

  • 9am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
