This part time, four stage, modular
programme is designed to offer flexibility to students who are working
full time. Students entering the programme at stage 1 can expect to
take four years to complete the programme, although its modular
structure facilitates students who wish to spread the workload over
longer time periods.
Students on the programme can choose
to exit with one of three awards:
Higher Certificate in Information Systems
and
Information Technology (IS/IT)
- This qualification is awarded to students who
elect to exit the programme upon successful completion of stages 1
and 2.
BSc (Ordinary) in Information Systems
and
Information Technology (IS/IT)
- This qualification is awarded to students who
elect to exit the programme upon successful completion of stages 1,
2 and 3. Note that in stage 3, students wishing to exit with this
award must complete an Ordinary Degree Project. This project
replaces two core stage 3 modules.
BSc (Honours) in Information Systems
and
Information Technology (IS/IT)
- This qualification is awarded to students who
elect to exit the programme upon successful completion of stages 1,
2, 3 and 4. During the final stage of the programme students are
required to complete an Honours Degree Project.
Instruction on the programme takes
place on campus in DIT Kevin St, during the hours 19:00 to 22:00 on
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Lectures are
provided on certain evenings with supporting laboratory and tutorial
sessions taking place on other evenings and on selected Saturdays.
Laboratory and tutorial exercises will be made available to student
through electronic media (online Virtual Learning Environments,
standard websites, physical media) to facilitate students who wish to
attend only for lectures.
In order to complete a given stage
in one academic year, students will only be required to attend for
lectures on 2 or 3 (depending on the stage and choice of modules)
evenings per week. Students may attend laboratory and tutorial
sessions in addition to these hours if they wish.
The programme is fully semesterised,
with modules being delivered and assessed in 15 week periods. Semester
1 begins in September with its final assessment taking place in
January. Semester 2 begins in February with its final assessment
taking place in May. |
