Class Timetable

The full class timetable for all stages of the programme is available here.

Registrations

The Registrations Office at DIT Kevin Street handle all matters relating to registrations, fees, visas etc. Your lecturers have no jurisdiction or influence over this process. A list of contact information for the registrations office can be found here.

As with the registration process your lecturers have no jurisdiction or influence over this either. This office is run by Joan Cummins. A list of contact information for the examinations office can be found here.

Technical Support

When you register you are automatically issued with a DIT e-mail account. This is the medium by which most personal communication between you and your lecturers will take place. Your addess is in the format of <student_number>@student.dit.ie which should be aliased to <firstname.lastname>@student.dit.ie. Access is provided via webmail. Your default login id is your student number and your default password is your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format. You should change your password to something known only to you. Further help is available here.

Some lecturers use the WebCT virtual learning environment to manage their courses and distribute material.

Technical support issues relating to student email and WebCT should be directed to ICT Support.

To support your coursework access is provided to various IT services in the School of Computing such as access to computer labs and servers. Technical support issues relating to locally provided services should be directed to the technicians in the School of Computing. Contact details are at http://www.comp.dit.ie/techsupport/.

Class Mailing List

Email communication with the class group is via a mailing list which is automatically updated when students register. The address for the groups are

  • DT2491-list<AT symbol>student...
  • DT2492-list<AT symbol>student...
  • DT2493-list<AT symbol>student...
  • DT2494-list<AT symbol>student...

These aren't "proper" adresses - they're deliberately obscured to inhibit address harvesting by SPAMBOTS. It should be obvious to a human, however.

3rd September 2009

Please note that due to a new student policy at the Institute, fees can no longer be recovered following withdrawal from any modules, under any circumstances.

However, if it is not your intention to complete a module once you've commenced that module, you must withdraw formally by informing me and the registrations office. Failure to do so will result in your being recorded as a fail at the examination board.

A meeting is being held for all final year students on Wednesday, 16th September 2009 in K108 at 19:00. If you intend to register for the Project module this year, you are strongly advised to attend. We will also discuss the option modules available in semester 2 at stage 4.

Please note the advice given to potential project students in the earlier meeting. There is a substantial workload involved in completing the Project module, so you are advised to only take it with the full set of final stage modules if you are confident that you can allocate the required time to the Project.

19th June 2009

Registration for continuing students on DT249 will take place online in September. In order for you to register online, you will need to inform me of your module choices by completing the ms249 form and sending it to me before 4th September 2009. The earlier you send it to me the earlier you will be able to register. Once you've submitted the form by e-mail I will confirm receipt - thereafter all queries regarding registration should be directed to the registrations office at kevin.registrations@dit.ie or on (01) 402 4687.

As always, you can elect to register and pay for both semester 1 and 2 modules in September. If however you only wish to register and pay for semester 1 modules at this stage, you should only select semester 1 modules on your ms249 form. You can then submit a second ms249 form in December / January updating your module selections.
