DT249
BSc in Information Systems
and Information Technology

Congratulations on your successful application to the part-time BSc Information Systems and Information Technology in the Dublin Institute of Technology.

You should now have received notification from the registrations office on how to proceed with registration. If you have any problems registering, please contact the registrations office at 01 402 4687.

Prior to registration, you must inform me of your module selections using the module selection form as advised in your acceptance letter. Please note that you can either select modules for semester 1 or for the entire year. If you just select semester 1 modules, you can select your semester 2 modules in January.

You will find the DIT academic calendar online at http://www.dit.ie/services/academic/calendar/

Important dates on this calendar include the examination weeks in January and May. Examinations take place in weeks 14 and 15 of each semester, so if you are intending to arrange a holiday around those times, please ensure that you are available for examinations.

Classes will commence in the week beginning 21st September. For those students entering stage 1, your first class will be on Tuesday, 22nd September, in K308. This room is on the third floor, at the corner of the two main corridors. The class will include an orientation session, instead of the orientation for full-time students which takes place next week, as shown on the academic calendar.

For all students entering stages other than stage 1, you can find the day, time and location of your first class on the timetable.

The timetable is available online at http://www.comp.dit.ie/dt249/timetables.html  The timetable is still subject to change, so please check the website close to the date of the first class for any updates.

Please note that there will be no lab classes (the dark grey entries on the timetable) on the first week. Your lecturer will inform you when lab classes will commence.

All information regarding the programme is communicated to students using the e-mail accounts provided by DIT and the programme website at http://www.comp.dit.ie/dt249/

Please familiarise yourself with the programme, and if you have any questions, feel free to raise these during the orientation session, or e-mail me or your class mentor at any point.

DIT Kevin St is located on Lower Kevin St. within walking distance of St. Stephen's Green in Dublin City Centre.

Third level education is an extremely valuable and rewarding experience for students. It is important to note, however, that part-time education places a high level of responsibility on students - more so than full-time students - for time management and independent learning. If you have any problems or issues during your studies, be sure to contact either myself or your class mentor.

Finally, congratulations on your successful application, and the very best of luck to you during your time in the Dublin Institute of Technology. If you have any questions, or wish to discuss anything with me, please contact me via e-mail or phone - my details are:
