From 2003 to 2006 I was involved in the Emersion project, a joint
collaboration involving Harbin
Institute of Technology in China,
University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom and
Dublin Institute of
Technology as lead partner. It was funded under the
European Union's
Asia-Link Programme. The aim of the project was to establish an industry oriented education model to be applied in China. It ran from 2003 to 2006. My role within in the project team was as Curriculum Development Implementation Team Leader. I was involved in two training missions which took place in Harbin, China in March 2005 and Weihai, China in September 2005. I attended the Second and Third China-Europe International Symposia on Industry Oriented Software Education in Harbin, China from 19th to 20th January 2006 and Dublin, Ireland from February 6th to 7th 2007, presenting two papers each year (listed in my publications page). In addition, as part of the DIT's franchise of its BSc Computer Science in Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), I delivered the third year course in Network Programming in HIT in September 2005 and the final year course in Distributed Systems in HIT in December 2006 and March/April 2007. Further information on the Emersion project is available via the website of Deirdre Lawless, the Emersion project manager.
