Experience: Norkom
Technology Ltd.

In April 1998, Brendan joined Norkom Technologies as a Business Intelligence
Consultant bringing his technology skills to support the data warehousing and customer
service lines.
Key projects included:
 | Project manager of the development of a Customer Churn System for a leading mobile phone
operator. The Customer Churn System allows the amalgamation of customer details into a
central repository. These customer details are then integrated by a number of tools,
including SLP Infoware to identify customers who are potential churners. The system
interfaces with a number of customer care, customer management and billing applications.
These interfaces allows the customer care department run targeted marketing campaigns. The
outputs of these campaigns are fed back into the Customer Churn System. These outputs are
added to the Customer Model thus building up a more detailed and accurate model for
modelling churn. I was responsible for the complete design and project management of this
3 man year project, which was delivered on-time and within budget. This involved working
with the client to defined the business requirements and the overall design of the
application. The project involved a team of up to 6 developers working on database
development, web application development, documentation, testing and training. As part of
my project management duties I was responsible for all client reporting, project planning,
project budgets, budget tracking and project resourcing. |
 | Project lead on a project to develop an automated management and director reporting
database for a leading telecommunications company. This involved working with the senior
management team to discuss their reporting requirement. I was then responsible for the
full design and management of the development of the automated reporting database. The
technologies included Oracle 8i, Active Server Pages for developing user interfaces
screens and Norkoms Alchemist for the delivery of the reports. The automated
reporting database required the defining of a number of KPIs and the automated
population of these KPIs. |
 | Project Lead on a project to develop an Information Architecture/data warehouse for a
leading direct insurance company in Belgium. The aim of the project is to develop a data
warehouse which will be used to merge data supplied by a number of data brokers with the
existing prospects list, provide customer segmentation of current customer base, apply
customer segmentation analysis to external data to facilitate efficient direct marketing
camgains. I was responsible for project initiation, project planning, defining resourcing
requirement, project budgeting, client reporting, definition of technical architecure,
requirement definition and the analysis phase of the project. |
 | Technical Project Lead on a project to develop a customer scoring and scorecard
application for a leading mobile phone operator. The aim of this application was to
provide the mobile phone operator with a mechanism to define their own scorecard which
they could fine tune the selection criteria to reduce the number of bad accounts getting
access to the network whilst increasing the number of good applications being accepted. I
was responsible for defining the technical infrastructure and working with the client to
ensure that the required infrastructure was put in place. |
 | Project Lead responsible for the migration of the Finance and Sales & Marketing
datamarts for a leading mobile phone operator. The mobile phone operator decided to
replace their customer billing and call processing application (ISIS) with a new
application called Amdocs. I was responsible for project planning, identification of
resourse requirement, client reporting, investigation and specification of modifications
and managing the development team. I was also responsilbe for managing the implementation
and post implementation problem resolution. |
 | Project Manager responsible for enhancements and identification of enhancements to the
Finance and Sales & marketing datamarts for a leading mobile phone operator. Following
the completion of the Sales & Marketing datamart I was given addditional
responsibility for the Finance datamart. My responsibilities included client reporting,
identification of resourcing requirements, project Budgets, identification of enhancements
and management of the implementation of the enhancements. |
 | Project Manager for the design and implementation of a Sales & Marketing datamart
for a leading mobile phone operator. I was responsible for the management of the analysis,
design, implementation and post-implementation support of the datamart. This involved
producing the requirements definition, defining the scope of the datamart, the data model,
database sizing, interfaces, etc. I was also responsible for defining the resourcing
requirements, project budgets, staff management, project delivery and client reporting. |

Key projects included:
 | Team leader on the development and implementation of a system for the Company
Registration Office. The new system will provide Oracle database applications with
GUI-based client front ends for both local and remote users, and a new Workflow and
Imaging system to automate document flow. The new application will support the receiving,
scanning and registration of documents and assisting with the enforcement of legislation.
The development environment includes Oracle 7 database, Oracle Developer/2000, Visual
Basic and FileNet. |
 | Part of team responsible for the for system functional proving of the Play at Home
Instant Game for Camelot UK. This involved the development of high level test scripts and
integration testing of all lottery applications. |
 | Team leader on the development and implementation of a system to administer and process
redundancy and insolvency payments for the Department of Enterprise and Employment. The
system was designed following the use of workflow analysis to streamline the
administration process. The system was developed using Oracles Developer 2000
products and Oracle 7 database. |
 | Project manger for the implementation of Windows 95 to over 500 people in 3 offices for
Deloitte & Touche. |
 | Assisted in the preparation of a common specification of a payroll and personnel system
for seven Health Boards. This encompassed the Recruitment, Personnel, Payroll and
Supperannuation roles, as well as Attendance Monitoring and Control functions. Structured
analysis and system specification techniques were applied to both the requirement
documents, as well as the results of the fact-finding exercises. |
 | For a major financial institution developed a home loan and commercial mortgage
application. The new application was designed to replace the companies existing Wang and
AS/400 applications. As a senior analyst/programmer I was responsible for development
using Oracle Forms 4.5, Oracle Reports 2.5, SQL*Forms 3.0, SQL*Menu, PL/SQL and Oracle 7
database. Other tasks included providing training on the Oracle products, providing
technical assistance and assisting with database administration on the development and
production Oracle 7 databases. |
 | Assisted a manufacturing company with the implementation of the Oracle Financial and
Manufacturing Applications. I was responsible for the development of customer specific
reports and modifications to existing reports using Oracle Reports 2.0 and Oracle 7. |
 | For a Health Board built a Client Index System which is a central patient data
repository. This was developed in Oracle 7, Forms 4.5, Reports 2.5, SQL*Loader, SQL*Plus
and PL/SQL 2.0. I was also responsible for database administration on the development
Oracle 7 database. |
 | Assisted with the development and provided user training for a Travel Information
Management System. This was developed in Oracle 7, Oracle Forms 4.5 and Oracle Reports
2.5. |
 | Designed and built a New Claims and Reinsurance Reporting System for an Insurance
company using Oracle 7, Oracle Forms 4.5 and Oracle Reports 2.5. |
 | Loan Maturity Analysis System conversion from COBOL to Oracle 7 and PL/SQL. I also
assisted with the development of an enquiry and reporting system using Oracle Forms 4.5
and Reports 2.5. |
 | Assisted a manufacturing company in the development and modification of reports to
interface with the Oracle Manufacturing System using Oracle Reports 2.5. |
 | Assisted for six months in the development, testing and user training of major
enhancements to the An Post PostDraft payments system. This is a major payment and
reconciliation systems which provides electronic payments and accounting for unemployment
benefit. The PostDraft Payment System was developed in Oracle 7, Forms 3.0, PL/SQL, COBOL
and SQL*ReportWriter. |
 | Developed a Savings Product Receipting System for An Post. This Oracle 6, Forms 3,
PL/SQL, SQL*ReportWriter system captures and audits receipts received for An Post Savings
and Investment Products. I was also responsible for the database administration of the
development and production databases. |
 | Developed a Customer Complaints System for An Post. This Oracle 6, Forms 3, PL/SQL,
SQL*ReportWriter system records and monitors complaints made by customers. I was
responsible for the development, testing, user training and for the database
