Robocode

Robocode is a programming competition run by Tipperary Institute of Technology. The competition takes place each year in April where competing teams from colleges all over Ireland pit their robots against each other. For more information on Robocode, see http://www.robocode.ie.

The 2007 DIT team:

Philip Kavanagh, Castleknock; Nick Rankin, Clondalkin and Ian O’Brien came FIRST!!!

And the 2006 DIT team:

Came second.

The school of computing also sponsored the team and covered all hotel, meal and travel expenses for the trip to Tipperary.

If you are interested in putting a team together to represent the DIT School of Computing @ Robocode 2008 please contact me. If there is more than one team, we will have local Robocode heats in the new year.

Important Dates:

  • Friday 29 February - Submit your robots to me!
  • Friday 7 March - Robots submitted to the Irish Robocode competition
  • Thursday 13 March - Robocode competition in Tipperary

Robocode Strategies

  1. When we should turn, face where we think the enemy will be by the time the bullet arrives. (Dead reckoning).
  2. When we fire, the strength should be proportional to the distance
  3. If we are close, we should just fire!
  4. After firing, move
  5. When scanned, random movement
  6. If scanned and close  turn gun and fire
