I am a lecturer in the School of Computing at the DIT in Kevin St. I have recently completed my PhD on the subject of the analysis and annotation of recordings of recordings of traditional Irish dance music. I also hold a first class honours degree in computer science and software engineering from the University of Dublin (graduated 1996, studied at the DIT) and an MSc in Computing from DIT (2003). Before lecturing at the DIT, I spent seven years working in the IT industry for companies including Bear Stearns, AIB and IBM.

My research interests include Music Information Retrieval and Digital Games. Try out tunepal.org - a query-by-playing search engine for traditional tunes, developed from my PhD research (no install needed, but you will need a recent version of Java installed on your computer).

I am also the author of the TunePal - Mobile for Windows Pocket PCs and Psion Series 5/MX/Revo. TunePal Mobile is a Music Information Retrieval system for traditional musicians.
